Driftless Prairies: Native Habitat Restoration

Nature inspires awe!

Chloropidae (Grass Flies)

This family, also known as Frit Flies, has about 3,000 species in it; they are diverse in shape and size but most of them are quite small. Chloropids are found in most every habitat and with differing feeding habits but most of them are found on grasses. They develop inside the vegetative parts and sometimes inside the seed. They overwinter as larvae.
