Driftless Prairies: Native Habitat Restoration

Nature inspires awe!

Gracillariidae (Leaf Blotch Miner Moths)

I find the propped-up resting position of these moths fascinating. It’s like they are always on the ready part of “ready, set, go.” The larvae affect vegetation in different ways depending on their instar (growth stage); the early instars are leafminers and the later instars are leafrollers. The adults are nocturnal but they do come to lights. There are about 100 genera of this family.
