Driftless Prairies: Native Habitat Restoration

Nature inspires awe!

Coenagrionidae (Narrow-winged Damselflies)

AKA Pond damsels

This is the largest family of damselflies with about 1,100 species found around the world. Most of them are found a ponds and rivers, but the Dancers prefer a stream habitat, which is probably why these are the species we would find on our Driftless Prairies. The males are more brightly colored than the females but both have transparent wings.
