Morganella pyriformis is in the order Basidiomycota and division of Gasteromycetes (Stomach Fungi). Stomach Fungi garner their common name because their spores are produced inside of their fruiting bodies. Because of this, the spores are not discharged but dispersed by external elements, such as wind or rain.
