Coyote
The coyote name is derived from Mexico’s Nahuatl Indians and means “barking dog.” They are one of the best runners of all the canines and cruise at 25-30mph with speeds of up to 40mph. Their calls can be heard clearly around here in the evenings; these serve to reunite members of a band. Barking without howling is used to defend dens and kills. They will also yip-yip-yip when chasing prey. Food sources are varied as coyotes will eat whatever is available, including carrion from larger animals, especially deer. They also dine on seeds, fruits, small mammals, and large insects.
