Driftless Prairies participates in several citizen science projects. some collect specific data and others list sightings. Below are links to data collected at our place:
Kestrel Box Monitoring
Bat Monitoring
Eastern Bluebird Trail
Most of our projects are reporting sightings of birds, insects, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and plants. These are important because they add data to the pool. This data is used to understand animal movement, trends or patterns within a community, and to monitor populations. Our focus is on environmental and ecological issues. We gain a great deal from participating. Not only do we know our observations of our world will be available in perpetuity, we are gaining knowledge and insight into these worlds! Citizen science projects are beneficial for everyone, they stretch the mind, and they have long-term, positive effects on those being studied and those doing the studying!
